ILM Level 5 Award in Management
Middle managers play a crucial role in implementing the policies and strategies set down by senior management. They perform a pivotal role in the integration of knowledge and experience, within a given strategic framework to generate practical applications. They are responsible for finding ways of dealing with and alleviating the impacts of problems as they occur, whilst managing employees to ensure that they are well-motivated and act responsibly.
Delivered over 5 days this management qualification is specifically designed to give practising or aspiring middle managers a solid foundation in their formal development in this role.
Workshop 1 & 2
Introduction to the role of a manager
This first module of this programme is delivered over two days, primarily focusing on the role and responsibilities of a middle manager. Participants will investigate a variety of different management styles and also learn the difference between vision, mission and value statements, as well as exploring how different corporate structures and ineffective communication can potentially impact on the business.
Workshop 3 & 4
Become an effective leader
The second module (also delivered over two days), will provide an in-depth look at leadership theories and styles and will focus participants on the role and responsibilities of a leader. The importance of emotional intelligence and motivation as well as the differences between empowerment and delegation will also be fully explored. It is clear that in this current business environment, middle managers must find ways to increase quality, productivity and performance with less money and less people. Mentoring is now regarded as providing the very highest return on investment of any development; and this module will allow participants an opportunity to further understand and enhance their mentoring capability.
Managing individual development, stress and conflict
The final module in this programme will explore the main causes of stress and conflict and look at effective techniques aimed at reducing or preventing it from happening. In the context of managing individual development, participants will also learn how to identify skills gaps within the team and conduct a training needs analysis. They will be introduced to a variety of learning and development methods as well as how to construct a viable learning and development plan. The workshop will also focus participants on evaluation techniques to measure the effectiveness of the training.
Assessment will be through work-based assignments to demonstrate achievement of learning outcomes. You will also be expected to complete a reflective review to demonstrate application in the workplace.
Delivery is usually over 5 days at a time and place convenient to you.
